Rev. Jim Higgins Updates from Iraq

Jim has sent us a few updates since his departure for Kuwait and Iraq. He's doing well, staying very busy and, yes, finding himself having to stay alert and aware of his surroundings.

If you want to learn more about Jim, read some of his emails and communications to the outside world about what's going on in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom, he's hopped on this technology bandwagon of blogging too. His blog is called "Letters from the Desert", which is a great title!

This reminds me of one of my favorite songs that I still hear occasionally, a John Michael Montgomery compilation from 2004 called, "Letters from Home". The extended version of this song has deployed soldiers and families reading letters from one another.

House Update! The Basement = Nirvana

Our basement has become what I could have only dreamed until now.

"The Big TV" has won Shannon over ("This is just like being at the movies!"), and watching college football (Free Shoes U. vs. Felons 'R' Us) in Hi-Def is awesome.

Okay, so I'm not sure if this is more hysterical than it is sad, or the other way around. We have no furniture down there (yet) and we are relegated to using our outdoor tailgating chairs. Ohhh yeahhhhh....

Tech v. Notre Dame, "Calvinists vs. Catholics"

Are you ready for some football!?!? Heck yeah, says Chad, as we headed off for a big day of tailgating and college football at Georgia Tech.

Ethan gets his first-ever trip on MARTA and appears more concerned, however, with the giant plug in his mouth getting blown away by the whoosh of the train.

Waiting on the train . . . and no, the cake in my hands is not ENTIRELY for me.
In fact, come to think of it, I didn't get ANY of it!
Heeeyyyyyy!

Ethan managed to snag one of those Buzz stickers for his face. On a side note, he also now seems able to crush plastic water bottles with his bare hands.

Ethan sitting in his cool GT chair, drinkin' a Bud, pondering the upcoming game . . . wait a minute, what happened to your pants?!?!?!

Grub time . . . Patrick wonders if Ethan's lunch looks better than his own.

(Sorry for the slight fuzziness) There was just a mass of humanity on the GT campus Saturday afternoon and evening. Fifty-five thousand people going to the game, and probably 10-20K more on campus that didn't have tickets. It certainly blew away the crowds for GT-UGAg games of recent memory at Tech.

LOTS of people around with the ND green, which, admittedly has an "easier-on-the-eyes" appeal than a certain red-and-black combo.

Okay, these dudes were just a hoot. That stuff is going to leave a mark! The chapeau on the middle guy really makes the outfit, doncha' think?

Inside the stadium, Tech students keep up their end of the bargain.

While the final score of the game wasn't how us Techies would have hoped (ND 14, GT 10), it was really a great game to watch and the environment was incredibly amazing. This is my favorite online photo from the game, with Tech's Joe Anoai sticking it to ND's Heisman-hopeful QB, Brady Quinn.
