UNC - National Champs! (Again!)

UNC gets it done behind strong play from their seniors, especially Felton and May, and gets the title tonight against Illinois. Felton, May and McCants all make the all-Tournament team, and, most likely, have played their final game for the Heels tonight. Quite a turnaround for this bunch that had to endure the Doherty down years and the still-felt presence of Dean and all the tradition that comes with it.

How crazy must things be tonight on Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill? Shannon got to watch tonight's game from Cheyenne Grill in Buckhead with all of her other UNC alums, while I was away in Evansville, IN (of all places) on a business trip. At least in Indiana, they (naturally) had their priorities straight and finding a place to watch the game was no problem.

I have to admit that tonight was an eerie feeling. One year ago tonight I was watching my own team, Georgia Tech, get its chance at the national title against UConn. A week earlier, Tech had advanced to that Final Four (I was there) in tonight's same Final Four building, the Ed Jones Done in St. Louis. A week later, I was disapppointed to see Tech lose on TV to a much superior UConn team, but this win tonight makes it feel like we will have at least one of our teams going a long way in the Dance for many years to come. Go Heels and Go Jackets!

Onto the Title Game

Well, it was not quite the close game that we had thought it was going to be . . . UNC thoroughly took apart the Michigan State Spartans tonight in St. Louis. We watched the game with one of Shannon's buddies from her days since NCSSM, Stan and his fiance, at this most UNC of all hangouts, Cheyenne Grill in Buckhead.

Onto the Title Game on Monday night! U-N-C! Go Heels Go!
