Patrick, Shannon and Emma's PhotoBlog

Patrick Sullivan, Shannon Sullivan, and their daughter, Emma, of Atlanta, GA have created this little 'Blog to allow us to share our lives, news, photos and thoughts with our family and friends. We hope you enjoy this little introspection!

Our big guy polar bear, Pops, trying on a new hat that Shannon knitted tonight for little Elliott White. He doesn't think this color is good with his white fur, so he'll give it up pretty easily to Little E.

The "Lost City" of Machu Picchu

Our favorite picture from Machu Picchu . . . This was taken on our first day there by our excellent guide, Miguel. We are at the main entrance to the site, with most of the city behind us. The mountain (or, hill, as the locals call it) is called Huayna Picchu ("little mountain"), while Machu Picchu translates to "big mountain". The sun was very intense up this high, so it made complete sense that Patrick would wear a black, long-sleeved shirt and black cap. (Well, at least Nike gets their logo in the picture, right? Because that's just what you'd expect to see on Machu Picchu!)

HONEYMOON IN PERU -- DAY 3

A nice view of our hotel in Nazca (the Nazca Lines Hotel), which we really enjoyed. The restaurant in the hotel was great, serving a nice Peruvian dinner and American breakfast to a couple of bus-weary gringos.

What a cool flower bush that we saw on the grounds of the Nazca Lines Hotel in Nazca, Peru.

At the Nazca Lines Hotel, a picture of the architecture that was all over the hotel. We really thought that the tile and archway designs were cool.

HONEYMOON IN PERU -- DAY 2

We took an interesting busride from Lima to Nazca to go see the Nazca Lines. During this busride (approx. 8 hours long!!!), we had the chance to see some rugged coastline like this shot, which reminded us of California, but the very poor housing was a startling reminder of our environs.

Continuing along on the busride from Lima to Nazca, this is the town of Ica (see it on the map at WorldAtlas.com). Although we only passed through, it seemed to be another crowded, dusty town in this desert, arid area of Peru's coastline from Lima southward.

Passing through the town of Ica, this is during the middle of the day where there doesn't seem to be much urgency in many of these guys' activities. Maybe it is "siesta time"?

This was a nice photo of the coastline as we continued our busride to Nazca, with the tanker out in the distance.

HONEYMOON IN PERU -- DAY 1

Day 1 in Lima, Peru in the Hotel Antara . . . We really enjoyed this hotel, and it was just about the only thing in Lima to enjoy. A very smoggy, crowded city of 8M+ people (1/3 of the entire Peruvian population of 25M) in such a tight space on the flat coastline, it was not a place that Shannon and I were to spend a great deal of time. We only entered and left Peru from here and connected through on one other occasion during our entire 10-day stay.

An interesting, fairly lush garden outside our hotel room window in Lima.

THE POLAR BEARS

Patrick and Shannon's Polar Bears . . . A picture for us to have on the camera of (l-r) Snow, Fridge, Frost and Popsicle (Pops) before we leave for Peru. Only the two smallest of the "guys" will be able to make the trip with us (Snow and Fridge) because of space considerations. We will miss them. :-(

Shannon and her good friend since high school, Brent Goff, with Patrick. Brent now lives in Berlin, Germany, with his partner, Uwe, and we really appreciated their coming all the way to Atlanta for our special day. Brent is a financial news TV anchor for a German network. We saw for the very first time on TV while we were in Peru (of all places!) at one of our hotels. Too funny!

Our Wedding Night!

Shannon and Patrick leaving the reception with a "tunnel" of sparklers outside The Carter Center. According to everyone we have talked to, this was a great scene and we are glad that it turned out to be a fun way for everyone to end the evening!

Patrick and Shannon are "delicately" trying to cut the wedding cake, designed and made by our wonderful family friend, Sally Mitchell of Syracuse, NY. It was a bit of a challenge, since each layer was a different type of cake, and we didn't want the top to come tumbling down on us!

Patrick and Shannon trying (delicately) to cut the cake. This was a bit tedious since each layer was a different type of cake (cheesecake, carrot cake, et al.). This was the most awkward moment of the night for us because the entire room (100+ people) were quiet as a mouse and it was very nerve-wracking to be the center of attention struggling to cut cake! :-)

Patrick's paternal grandparents, Roy (Sr.) and Alcye Sullivan, with Patrick's dad, Buddy . . . They live down I-85 in Columbus and also blessed us by being able to come up for the day . . .

Patrick's grandparents, Grace ("Nanny") and Darden Daniel, who we were sooo blessed to have at our wonderful evening. She has had a stroke within the past six months, but you really couldn't even tell, now could you??? :-) Patrick's step-sister, Sarah Ramsey, is flanked by Franklin Roosevelt in the background! :-)

Shannon's Bridesmaid's Luncheon (Swan Coach House)

Shannon's bridesmaid's luncheon was held late Friday morning at the Swan Coach House, a place that Shannon described as a very "girly" restaurant located on the grounds of Atlanta History Center in Buckhead. Shown here with her wedding party (l-r) Julie Porter, Wendy White and Verlon. Thanks to Shannon's aunt's, Marjie Guilford and Linda Guilford, for arranging and hosting this event for her!

Great picture of Shannon with her wedding party . . . (l-r) Wendy White, Julie Porter and Verlon. It seems that mimosas were a popular drink for this event!

Beloved family friend, Sarah Fedota. Sarah was a huge inspiration for us in having the wedding reception at the Carter Center/Presidential Library, since she works there as a director in their publications group. Thank you Sarah!
